Eli's gaze flickered to the door momentarily, then went back to looking around the room, wating for Elizabeth to open it.

Elizabeth answered the door, only opening it a crack. Beyond was a messenger from one of her customers. One of her less lawful customers. The messenger was a hulking brute by the name of Bruce or Ox or someother bodyguard type name; Elizabeth never bothered to learn it.
"What is it?" She demanded in annoyence.
"Boss wants ya. Says you're ta come now." It said.
Elizabeth looked down her nose at him, which was interesting since he towered over her. She didn't bother to keep the scorn out of her voice, the messenger wasn't likely to hear it anyway. "What? Did he lose the key?"
"Didn' say. Just that ya ta come."

Eli glared at the messenger for a moment, then went back to looking around. She was ticked, sure, but she could still be happy!
((Geez, you're weird....Eli: *glares* not as weird as you.... Me: Shut. It. Now.))

Elizabeth frowned up at the hulk and glanced back at Eli. She weighed her options. On the one hand, she knew better then to follow this 'messenger' alone, but on the other, she didn't know what Eli was good for in a fight. Elizabeth had been practicing at knife throwing since there was no way for her to get more ammunition for her gun. She was getting the hang of the new technique and her aim was as true as her marksmanship.
"Just a moment." she said and closed the door in the man's face. She turned and looked at Eli and asked, "What do you think?"

"I think," said Eli decisivly, "that we should go. There's just as much chance that this guy could try to assasinate you wrather than close the deal, but then I don't know the man. Also, if I were to stay here, someone would probably try to murdur me while waiting for you to get back. So, might as well make the best of it, eh?"
And after saying so Eli started to pack some stuff, but this time she only grabbed necessities(sp).

Elizabeth nodded. The girl wasn't as naive as she would have thought, but then Eli seemed to have been on the streets for a while, so it shouldn't be surprising that the girl thought that way.
She went into her room for a moment and tucked two knives into sheaths she had stiched into the inside of her jacket. She also pocketed a small bag filled with sharpened bits of metal, about a dozen or so no longer then her finger. She had found they worked just as good as a knife and were easier to replace.
As Elizabeth headed for the door again, she snatched up her workbag. She didn't bother to explain Eli's presence to the messenger. The man lead the way out of the bording house and through the streets, heading for a tavern that was tenanted by many of the city's lest lawful citizens.

Eli followed, smiling whenever she saw something she recognized. But the smile went POOF when they arrived, for she didn't like the looks of this at all.

Elizabeth gave the tavern a cursory glance, noting the exits and the structure of the walls, incase they needed to get out in a hurry. The inside of the building was remarkably well lit, to discourage its patrons from practicing their 'trade' within its walls.
The messanger lead the girls to a table near the back of the taproom. There were a few men sitting around it, but all but one got up to leave as they approached. The remaining man looked them over with a lazy grin.
Elizabeth crossed her arms and waited. She knew she had more patience then the so-called "Thief Lord". She was not intimidated by him in the slightest. Finally the man spoke.
"Collecting beggars, I see, my dear Lizzie..."
She looked at him blanly. "I am not your dear anything, let alone 'Lizzie'. She is my assistant."

//Assistant? Me? since when?!// Eli wondered, resisting the urge to shoot Elizabeth a glance. Maybe this was for the best. Eli kept her eyes trained on the man that seemed to be the talker, the man in charge, whatever. The bright side of things? Elizabeth hadn't dumped her anywhere on the way here! Other than that, everything seemed rather dim.

The 'Theif Lord' tsked. "I never allow such rudeness..."
"I am not one of your people." Elizabeth interrupted, putting firm emphathsis on the word 'not'. She didn't move a hair from her earlier stance. "I also dislike being dragged down here in the middle of the night. So tell me which locks were broken."
The man smirked. "Always the direct one." Elizabeth continued to stare calmly at him, ignoring the uncomforatble bubble of silence that was surrounding the table. Finally he continued.
"Well, some unlucky lad thought he could get the best of me and attempted to break into my collection. I have since dealt with the culprits, but their enthuziasm has damaged the Vault doors considerably.
"I want the locks redone. Tonight."
Now Elizabeth gave an amused snort. "In one night? You're foolish then I imagined."

Eli shifted slightly.
//Locks? What locks? Did someone try to break in here?// Looking around, Eli found that she wasn't very surprised that there were broken locks around here.

The man shook his head. "Foolish doesn't play any part of it. I want to protect what is mine of course. No more than any other person."
Elizabeth snorted again. Her opinion of the man's reasons were never very high. "We'll see. To do such a repair done so quickly leads to sloppy work. You want quality work done, it will be very expensive. Are you willing to pay my fees, or are you going to try and cheat me?"
"Would 450 gold pieces suit you?"
Elizabeth didn't flicker an eyelash at the amount.

Eli bit her tounge, straining not to gasp or .... or scream. Or something. //450? Is she actually going to ask for higher?!// She wondered, eyeeeing Elizabeth.
