Slowly, Hakai began walking towards the cave. Gaven, startled at Hakai's sudden movement (well at least to her anyways) Hurried up next to him, moving slowly and just as deliberately as he (or so she tried), trying to hide the shaking in her boots. Personnally, she thought they were moving much to fast - although they were moving slow - and much to close to the cave for her own comfort. But they had to get by, she told herself. There was nothnig to fear but fear itself. She really wished she had that guy who made that up here in front of her so she could turn him into a toad! Or maybe just shoot him with a crossbow. No, too plain, not enough imagination there. May be tie him to a slab and have a razor-edged pendulum arcing back and forth as it slowly lowered notch by notch - she'd been reading too meny horror novels lately, she thought to herself.

Something was coming from the cave. A very high pitched hissing sound. Almost too high to hear. The only reason Hakai noticed it was because it was making the nearby tree branches shiver. Right at the edge of the cave he stopped and rested a hand on one of the boulders that formed the entrance.
It was resonating with the sound.
"What kind of creature makes this sound?" he asked Gaven quietly.

"What?" Her ears were ringing. Or no? Was her ears ringing? Did Hakai hear it too? "Are you talking about that high-pitched noise? Huh, I just thought my ears were ringing. It's too high for even a banchie, crystals make that sound when struck the right way. I've never heard of an animal make that sound."

"I cannot hear anything, but the rocks are humming. The tree branches too." Hakai answered, peering around the edge of the cave. Nothing looked out of the ordinary in the space he could see.

"It could be an earthquake. That would explain why my ears are ringing. Or an avalanche - we should get into that cave. Right now! Get your horse!"

Hakai grabbed Gaven's arm before she ran into the cave.
"But the ground is not shaking." He looked up the slopes above their heads. "And there is no movement up there. I do not think it is either the earth shaking or an avalanche."
He looked into the cave again. The vibrations in the rocks and tree branches had stopped.

She pullede her arm away and glared. She was tired of this guessing game. "Well if it's not an avalanche, and it's not an earthquake, then what is it?"

Hakai looked at her, exasperated. "How should I know?" HE glanced at the cave. Nothing about it told of andangers within or nearby. He sighed.
"Come on then. Might as well take a rest there."

Gaven gawked at him for a moment, her eyes wide and her mouth agape like a fish. Wasn't there... danger- uuuggghhh! Forget it. "Fine!" she snapped, her back bristling She stalked toward the cave entrance with as much aristocratic dignity this mage could muster at that moment. Just think how frightened he had her a moment ago, practically terrified! A mage, none the less. She strode right up to the cave, although in her robes she still had hidden the wand, that of which she clutched tightly. What ever was in that cave, she would face, and show that over zealous Hakai there was nothing to be afraid of.

Hakai stiffled a sigh and took up Imoto's reins. The horse was still a little nervy, but was willing to be led into the cave. Once they were off the path, he quickly checked the mare over, soothing her at the same time.

She faltered for a moment, her foot hovering in midair - for just a moment. She put her foot down, closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Whatever was in that cave, she told herself, not even completing the thought. With a nod, she stepped into the cave.
ooc: so what's in the cave?
