Heather stopped for the moment and looked back on the trail she had left. She had not stayed long in the Port, having been struck with a desire to explore the area. Now, here she was, exploring the mountains. She loved nature, and hiking was her favourite past time. Even though she was in shape, she did not have to worry about the thin atmosphere as she was still at the base of the mountain range. There were paths around the mountain. They were made by mountain goats however, so they were not very wide.
Heather adjusted the straps of her handy back pack and continued on. Soon she would come around the bend and gain a better view of the valley. Also, there was a ledge where Heather could sleep for the night.

A man was hiking not too far away. Though he couldn't see the girl, and she couldn't see him.
On the ledge that the girl had been thinking about, sat a band of roaming bandits.
Their campfire was burned out, and they were preparing to leave.
If the girl just had been ten minutes later, they would have already left.

Heather turned the corner. "Oh. hello, I didn't know anyone was camping here. I'll just continue on," Heather said in a nervous tone as she realized that these men were bandits.
A deep voice growled from the man who was obviously the leader. "Now hold on there missy. Now that you have seen us, we can't be letting you leave our company so soon."

Two of the large men stepped in front of her.
A half drunk one accidentally fired his pistol in the air. Causing half of the men to panic momentarilly.
The two men grabbed her.
Far off, the wandering man heard the shot, and knew of the bandits in the area.
He took off in the direction he had heard the shot.

The leader ordered Heather to be tied up and then it was discussed what should be done with her. Their attention was occupied with the matter at hand. The sound of their arguement travelled.

The girl had been tied to a large tree. The man caught his breath, then silently made his way behind the tree, and sliced the rope, then cupped a hand over her mouth and pulled her behind the tree. Holding her close, and still. The point in the argument came where a bandit pointed over to the tree in fury. Only to see she wasn't there. The leader order them to look, and they all ran off, leaving the camp. None of them bothered to look behind the tree.

When Heather felt the rope loosening, she felt relieved. She was a bit alarmed and almost cried out when a hand covered his mouth. She was grateful when she was finally free, as she had been very fearful of how they would have treated her. The tree trunk was large enough to hide them thankfully. She stood still nervously beside the stranger, relieved to be hiding from the bandits but curious about who saved her. She was about to whisper her name when shouts of surprise interupted. The bandits had discovered her disappearance! Heather was thankful the tree trunk was so large.

The man waited till the sounds of the bandits was distant, then let go of her. "Come on!" He whispered urgently. "We've gotta go." He took her hand and began running away from the ledge. After about half a mile, he stopped, and let her rest. "Sorry about that." He said, half out of breath.

"Phew. I'm glad I'm in good shape." Heather said as she took a big gulp of air. " There is no need to apologize. You saved my life. Who knows what those bandits would have done," she said with a shiver.

"That's quite alright." The man said.
"What are you doing all the way out here alone anyway?" He asked.

"Oh, I love to wonder and explore new areas. I got a roughly drawn map from someone who had gone through here a long time ago. Its in my pack....ohh! my pack is back by that tree I was tied up to." Heather frowned. "I can't lose that pack, I have irreplacable items from Home in there." Heather frowned even more.

The man looked almost irritated. "Fine, wait here....try to stay hidden." He instructed, and headed off back to where the bandit's camp was.

Heather nodded and waited. She leaned against the mountain side, to stay partially hidden in the shadows. She remained alert, just in case someone other than the stranger appeared.

The man made his way speedily back to the camp. A few exhausted bandits lay around the camp resting. He sneaked up to the tree, and reached down for the pack there, just as the tip of a sword touched his nose. He look up at the bandit that was smiling up at him. He gave quick smile, and grabbed the sword, and shoved it aside so he could punch the man, who went down. The bandits that were laying down suddenly sat up at the noise. but the man had already grabbed the pack and was running at full speed away from the camp. He managed to lose the bandits in the dense trees and was coming up close to where he had told the girl to wait. He was very out of breath, and had a cut on his cheek where the sword had caught him.

Heather saw someone coming. It looked like it was the guy who had saved her but she wasn't sure.
