Elaafis stood and waited while she got the funny shaped stick.

Rainlight returned with the fishing-stick. "I have seen the fishercraftsmen use these from boats mostly. We will have to make do with using it from shore."

"It was a very long time ago. I lived a ways inland before I Impressed Rith." Rainlight explained.

"At her Hatching. That is how I became a dragonrider." Rainlight said as she examined the curve of the beach to find the best place to fish from.

"It is a little hard to explain really." Rainlight explained, her dark grey eyes going distant and a tiny smile on her lips. "With fire-lizards, you just have to stuff their faces when they hatch. With dragons, it is all about dragon's choice. The Weyrs Search out likely candidates for the clutches. When they hatch the dragonets chose which candidate is right for them. They tell the boy, or girl, their name. Once you Impress you know you will never be alone ever again."

"That's intresting..." Elaafis understated. "I met my dragon in a different way...."

"How did you meet your dragon?" Rainlight asked curiously.

"I was shot...Then I woke up and I was in one of the ruins. I think I fell into them from the top of the cliff. I should have been dead." He said. "The dragon then rescued me from monsters in the ruin."

Rainlight looked at him curiously. "I would say you were very lucky to have survived the fall as well as the creatures in the ruins."

"I think the dragon may have had something to do with my surviving the fall as well..." He said. "Death was pretty certain from that height"

Rainlight nodded. "I guess it does not matter what world you are from, somethings never change."

"That is true..." He said, "I wonder where the people are on this world..." he asked no one in particular, changing the subject.
