Author's Note: At one given time, this had been expanded and definately a lot better, a school assignment. Also let it be known that all characters are different from their original places.... Other then that, read away.
Author’s Note:
The mansion stood in a brightly lit, strangely eerie part of the countryside. The plants around it were shaped to form people and animals, it made the house look more fabulous. But unlike it's normal cheerful self, this house was in a panic. One of the main household members had lost his way around the house, and now couldn't be found. Or so they thought.
Ryan Mylyan was not a happy person most of the time, but that was very hard to tell. He wouldn't speak unless spoken to, and wouldn't make a move towards anyone unless told to. He was the perfect gentlemen, or what most people would think of a perfect gentleman. He'd had brown hair, and yellow eyes, strange for him in the family. Except that his uncle, the owner of the house, also had yellow tinted eyes. Daniel Mylyan owned the house, and looked remarkably like his nephew. The third member of the household was Daniel's second nephew, whose parents had died years ago. Kenny Drear was the outside member of the household, both hotheaded and loud mouthed. Not two things thought attractive in anyone.
The last official member of the household was a rich heiress, named Christy Eft. She had been betrothed to Ryan. And even with his disappearance, she'd been the first person out on the seen to attempt to look for him, not believing that her one chance at a good family had been destroyed. Daniel was also disappointed in this, but was not totally torn. Unfortunately for her, he did have a second nephew.
Two months past in a blur, and still he wasn't found. The servants were all going insane with worry, but Daniel was still somewhat calm. Surprisingly enough, he'd been the one to keep his head throughout the entire ordeal. No one had thought the eccentric man would be able to keep his head after a glass of wine, let alone the disappearance of his favorite relative.
Before I leave you to your story, one last character must be known. A small girl, a servant of the household with rich relatives, Miss Loryn Noles. Her uncle died, leaving her with quite a bit of money, more then she could have dreamed. No longer being a servant girl, she'd entered the house as a border, which Daniel had been quite pleased about. Kenny on the other hand, had become her worst nightmare.

The ground beneath his feet was smooth and cold. Cold because it was drenched in water, drenched in water because it was a pool. Daniel had decided to build it this year. Being something to help cheer him up after Ryan's disappearance. It was originally supposed to be the young boy's birthday present, but that had been dashed when he'd disappeared. So instead it was a gift to Loryn's getting into her money. He wouldn't simply buy it for himself no that was rude.
Daniel watched the people around him with bored eyes. They were all so wary of him, of his eccentric ways, and his bad temper. This had almost been destroyed when Ryan had gone. But something in him told him that his favorite nephew was not yet dead. Still, it was only hope. He could have been eaten by any number of creatures surrounding the house. Anything from wolves to cougars could be feasting on his flesh right now, and they still hadn't found his body.
"What useless police officers we have in these parts hmm, Loryn?" he asked his newest household member. Someone who was hopefully going to replace Ryan in his mind.
Loryn looked up at him with wide and innocent green eyes. She'd been clinging to him for the last few days, probably afraid of Kenny and Christy's abuse towards her. She nodded, ever so slightly, in response to his question. Her black hair fell over her eyes in wet ringlets.
Kenny and Christy were across the pool, playing some horrible game at this time. Chasing each other yelling two men's names that he didn't understand. But children were making up new games all the time.
"I wish that they'd have looked harder," Loryn mumbled at him, breaking him out of his musings.
"Yes, don't we all, my dear," he stated with a sigh. It took a huge chunk out of his spirited servant, now border.
"I don't think that they do," she said with a huff, motioning at the two across the pool.
"Well Kenny has never liked our Ryan at all. He was always jealous I think, although I don't understand why," he told her. "Ryan didn't have half the looks that that boy does, or the ability to speak in public. No, Ryan was a good man, but he wouldn't have been able to take over this estate as well as my other nephew could."
Loryn nodded her head again, still in the slight way that you'd have to be watching to notice. "But I don't think that Ryan had ever intended on taking over the estate. I think that's what made Kenny believe that he... ran away," she stated, almost flinching. She couldn't imagine that he'd run away and leave her here.
Daniel watched her, seeing the sadness in her eyes. Before Ryan had left, she'd been his servant, and probably much more then that. But that was her problem now, not his. She'd only come a little out of her shell now, and he wasn't about to press her and loose everything that he'd strived so hard to obtain with her. Not make her go completely distant with him again.
"I think... I think I'm going to get out now," she said sadly, and swam like a swan to the ladder on the side of the pool.
Daniel watched her leave, sad with her, before going back to look at the two children at the other side of the pool.
They had no idea what they were getting into that day. No idea how they would deal with the things that were about to be thrown at them. But the future was not in his uncle's hands, not anymore. It was in his. He would gain what he lost with 'his' disappearance. He would gain it all back.
The night passed quickly, dinner followed by an almost silent games night. No one felt like talking anymore, but she couldn't blame them now could she. Loryn stared out a window, the chess game in front of her completely forgotten, by both members. Christy, who was across from her, was keeping her eyes almost solidly in the direction that Loryn had them as well. As if she might get a glimpse into whatever was in the dark haired girls mind. Loryn turned from the window, feeling Christy's cold blue eyes on her back.
Christy was a beautiful girl. Blonde, waist length hair, ice blue eyes that glittered with her emotions, and pale milky skin to top it off. She fit nicely into the golden room, her dress matching, almost blending into the surroundings.
"Yes, Christy?" Loryn asked her, green eyes as innocent as she could make them. Honestly, she didn't like the girl, not at all.
"Nothing, I was just thinking of how much better you'd look if you'd actually do something with your hair," she said airily. Her voice was always airy, breathy, something that men seemed to like with her.
"It's a true pity, that," Loryn replied with mock sadness.
"Why's that?" Christy asked her, her head tilting ever so slightly to the side, her hair tipping a bit.
"Because you're never getting your hands on it," Loryn stated with a bright smile, before going off into a different room in the house. She needed to leave, or find Ryan. That would be good. Not really thinking that much, she took off to her room, and grabbed her cloak. It was long and black, which a metallic purple inside. It flowed around her, and matched her black dress perfectly.
She took off her high-heeled shoes, and placed on a pair of flat sandals, so that she'd be able to run if she absolutely had to. She looked out her door before leaving; she did not want her uncle, or Kenny seeing her. She didn't really care about Christy. Christy wouldn't tell on her, that girl believed in sisterhood and stuff like that. Pathetic, at least in Loryn's point of view.
The coast was clear, and Loryn was out in a flash of dark light. She was out the back door in a matter of seconds. Unable to stop the fact that she felt as thought Ryan was there, watching her, she had felt like that all night. Someone's eyes on her, on her back, on her face. It gave her true hope that Ryan was still alive.
In the back yard, and past the pool, with the fountains still going off all around her. Jumping fountains that Daniel had had installed the same day he'd done so with the pool. She ran down, until she was at the edge of the forest surrounding the place. She looked up into the forbidding branches with no fear, Ryan was in there.
He watched her, watched her leave, and enter the forest. Watched her enter, and watched her fears as she moved around, turning in fear every few meters. Not wanting to be eaten by a wolf or such. Not that he could blame her, well he could, but it wouldn't be nice. Smiling, he followed her deeper, knowing the way back by heart. There wasn't just one reason that he was here, but a million. Deciding that he didn't want to play anymore, he walked up to her and tapped her shoulder, almost laughing at her shocked eyes when they faced him.
What You Will, What You Want
