You don't have to sign these or anything, they're just tips.
Common Abbreviations
char: character
rp: roleplay (also rper: roleplayer, rping: roleplaying, etc)
newbie: beginner, new player (also known as a noobie or noob)
pc: Player Character; your main character in a thread
npc: Non-Player Character; any characters you write about other than your main one in a thread; supportive characters.
ic: In Character; anything you write that's part of the actual story, including speech and narrative.
ooc: Out Of Character; talking to the other role-players as yourself, not your char. For example, if I'm on an rping thread and I want to talk to Jen, aka Torch, (as opposed to Naias talking to Eve) I will lable it “OOC:” and when I switch back to Naias' point of view, I will lable it “BIC:”<br>bic: Back In Character
pov: Point Of View
lol: Laughing Out Loud
MSN: the chat
aim: Aol Instant Messanger
im: any instant messanger service
pm: Private Message, usually referring to email or xsorbit mail (This can also refered to im)
rl: Real Life
irl: In Real Life
iirc: If I Remember Correctly
imho: In My Humble Opinion
If you ever come across an abbreviation or slang word you don't understand, feel free to ask; we won't make fun of you for not knowing it.
Taboos
#1) Don't God-play
God-playing includes making your character invincible (if your char gets hit with a lightening bolts, it WILL hurt!), making other rper's pcs move, talk, or think, and making your character do impossible things. (Extraordinary feats of strength and magic can be acceptable, but they will usually tire/injure your char. When in doubt, ask!)
#2) Don't Auto-hit
An auto-hit is hurting or killing another pc without the other rper's consent. If you do something that will definitely hurt/kill them, explain it ooc.
rainlightlyn posts:
Naias stared at the approaching man. There was something about him that terrified her. Something she couldn’t name. In a last ditch effort to stop him she threw up a firewall around herself.
OOC: It’s basically a barrier made of fire. The only things that can get through it are things that have some power over fire. It can be countered by water though.
Torch posts:
OOC: All right, You would use something that Daniel can’t go against wouldn’t you .
BIC: Daniel stopped as the wall of fire appeared around the girl. Balked of his prey, he prowled around the circle the fire made, seeking a way past it.
****end of example****
You can skip over the the OOC explanation if the person you’re rping with already knows what your talking about. Of course, not all roleplaying revolves around fighting. Most of the best rping revolves around emotions and character developement.
(Jen: Sorry for using Daniel as an example. I just don’t know any of the other characters as well as I know him. ;D )
