Go up to the top, hit "profile" on the bar under the main banner right at the top it gives you the option to "modify profile" click that, go to where it says avatar, and you can choose from a list, or put the URL of a picture (picture only mind, not website) underneath

well, you know how you can go to a website and then click on pics, and it takes you to a place where you view the picture on its own? like that

What Fuzzy means is that if you right-click and select 'properties', then one of it's properties will be a url. Copy that url and place it in the line in your profile, and stuff. Oh, in case you're wondering, the link that the properties gives you, when you paste it in the adress bar, you should go to a webpage with just that image, in the top left-hand corner of the screen. That's what Fuzzy means by the picture addy, not the website addy. Er, sorry Fuz, I just clarafied(spelt WRONG....I know it) everything that would've confused me! ^_~

You do need to host your pic online... I use photobucket since it's free!

Photobucket's the bestest one...I just started using it, I used to use Ripway but half the people couldn't see it.
The only bad thing about Photobucket is the Bandwith limits..... =B

Did you put in how big you want the image to be? My image is bigger than 100x100, but I put in that size anyways and it shrunk it...as you can see... Actual pic:
