OOC: Magical thread... Free to join ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The wind howled across the ruined buildings. The snow piled up in drifts that nearly covered everything. Nothing should be able to survive in the storm that was raging.
A figure staggered along an unseen path. It was obvious that the girl was not dressed for the cold. She struggled against the wind, leaning heavily on her glaive, using it like a crutch. Finally she managed to reach one of the buildings.
Shivering terribly, Jan searched about for something to build a fire with. Finding a few bits of wood and windblown debris, she started a small fire in the corner of the building. She huddled close, her glaive lying across her lap, her teeth chattering.
Stupid. Allowing them to chase me into a storm instead of killing the lot of 'em. Stupid mercs she thought as she stared into the fire. Cold... Too cold... Should stay awake... Cold It became a struggle to keep her eyes open.
Eventually sleep overtook her as the flames flickered. Jan fell alseep slumped over her glaive beside a dying fire.

Braedon half walked, half fell through the door, and then struggled to shut it against the wind.
Once it was closed, he lowered the hood of his arctic coat, and noticed the girl lying by the dying fire.
He bent down and touched some of her bare skin, she was freezing cold, but she was breathing.
Braedon pulled a blanket out of his bag, and laid it over her, then rebuilt the fire.

There nothing left. Only a burned out husk of a building. It was still there even after so many years. The wind brought the sounds of a battle. Turning to face it. Blood everywhere. Metallic tang heavy in the air. Cold. Cold in fighting. Cold in spirit. Cold in heart. Cold
Opening her eyes, Jan woke from the dream to find a blanket covering her and the fire burning brightly. She sat up, her body stiffly protesting the movement.

Braedon noticed the girl stirring.
"Hey, are you ok?" He asked, cooking a sausage over the fire.

Jan looked sharply at the man seated across the fire, one hand unconciously grabbing the glaive lying next to her. She briefly closed her eyes and told herself to relax silently. "I'm fine." she said shortly. "Why are you here?" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OOC: Jan's just being mistrustfull.

"Here." He passed her the sausage, and began cooking another.

Jan snorted at his glib comment and took the sausage. she sniffed it carefully before taking a bite. Her stomach declared war on her backbone because of the delay. She did eat it quickly, not quite wolfing it down.
Now that she was warming up, Jan started feeling the bruises and tiny cuts on her body.

"Are you ok?" He asked, "You look like you've been through a bit of a rough time."
He looked over her, noticing bruises and scratches on her exsposed skin. He had seen more before he had covered her with the blanket.

Jan shrugged. "That's what happens when you get ambushed by a bunch of mercenarys." she looked the man over carefully.

"Are they still about?" He asked, still cooking the sausage. The slightest amount of concern in his voice.

Jan glared at the man. "How should I know? They might have bugged out when the storm hit, or they might have found shelter."
Stiffly she stood and paced allowing her muscles to loosen up a bit.

Jan just about opened her mouth to refuse when she thought better of the offer. It would be better than loosing fingers and toes to frostbite she thought as she nodded.
"Thank you."

Braedon dug into his pack ad pulled out some thicker clothes and a coat, and passed them to her.
The coat had a hood that might be useful if she wanted to hide her face.
He soon went back to eating his sausage.

Jan pulled the extra clothing over her own. More than a little big, it made her look a bit like a young child trying on her older brother's or father's clothing. She set the coat aside for the moment.
