PTS: Magical, so scoot if you dun like it.
"OOF!"
Leeloo stood up and brushed off her once-white robes, then glowered at the offending root that had tripped her. She'd been walking since the last town, and the pretty scarlet trim of her robes was brown with filth - and now her knees matched.
The forest was thick with hot, damp air that felt like breath on her face. Odd bottle-shaped fungi and tiny blue flowers grew out of the cracks in trees. It was very, very quiet; only the occasional distant call of a bird broke the thick silence.
Her feet sank into the boggy mud past the ankle when she walked, so progress was slow. Yawning, she wondered how far the next town was. She was awfully sleepy...
She sat down in the warm mud with her back against a tree (her robes weren't getting much dirtier) and relaxed in a ray of dappled sunlight. A soft breeze sighed through the trees.
The world grew slow and heavy, and so perfectly peaceful. Her eyelids began to weigh down, down...

Blackie sighed. He had pretty much mastered navigating with smell alone. It was one of the advantages of being a cat, but it had taken him a long time to get used to it.
However in this swampy bit of land, the smell of rotting vegetation, pungent flowers, and fungi. His nose was overpowered. It was all he could do to not let his eyes water, let alone sniff a way out.
He had to admit, he was a little lost...

Eve moved gracefully through the trees. It almost seemed as if the very branches leapt out of her way. Her hands gently touched the trees as she looked for her errant friend. He'd disappeared, claiming that he could go anywhere using his nose, apparently he'd been incorrect. Due to her own senses not being quite as developed as his were anyway, she'd soon found herself blessedly lost.
Tears stung her eyes, and she was sent back to the beginning, when she was always lost. "Blackie!" she whispered, the word choked by both fear and tears. It was something that she couldn't help, this helplessness that overtook her when she was alone.
Without much hesitation, not to mention time for thinking her actions out, she started running. Blindly calling his name and attempting to get away from mysterious and imaginative people who were chasing her, Even didn't even realize that she was nearing something covered in mud and sleeping on the ground. Without even slowing down, she hit the thing full-power, flying against a tree and holding on for dear life.

The sleeping woman scarcely stirred except to give a soft sigh. She rolled over in the mud as though it was a downy bed, matting her hair with grime. The mud was smeared all the way down her face and body by now.

Blackie yawned. Damn, this place stunk. He would think about laying down to sleep if the smell didn't burn his nose. He was still tempted though.
He carried on a little further. His eyes were watering now, and his vision was blurring. It made him feel blinded in two ways, and even more uneasy. His pace was slowing, even if he didn't realize it. He still had his ears, at least. But he couldn't hear any trace of Eve...

Eve turned from her place on the tree back to the girl on the ground. She frowned, why hadn't she woken up? Even a giant would have woken up with that hit. Her brow furrowed and she moved closer, inching towards her like a child about to poke the monster to see if it'd wake up. Yet as she moved within a few inches of the girl, she started to get tired. Her eyes drooped closed slowly, and her legs gave out. Finally, her orbs closed and her arms attempted to reach out to catch her. Instead of hitting the ground like she thought they would, they simply plunged into a world of blackness.

It was so bright, Leeloo thought. So blessedly bright. It was as though the Sun Himself had walked here.
The landscape was uncertain and surreal somehow, and she couldn't remember how she'd got there. The last thing she remembered were those soporific woods. A mirrorlike lake stretched out before her, fathomless and glittering with promise.
But something was missing. Something felt terribly wrong.
Leeloo glanced to the heavens for reassurance as she often did, but cried out and couldn't tear her eyes away from the sky.
It was daylight, but there was no Sun.

Blackie moved onward. His eyes only saw blurry colours now that shifted and blended in various shades of brown and green. His legs were starting to go numb, and his nose was burning as if it was on fire.
He would have panicked, but he didn't. There was no energy left for that. He felt drunk, and his mind was numb. What was he doing? He could barely remember.
Finally, his consciousness gave out, and he was out before he felt his chin slump softly onto Eve's limp leg.
The burning feeling engulfed him...

This couldn't be right.
Everything appeared glassy and bright, and it all seemed to move as though she was acutely aware of the very earth's rotation. Even the distant mountains seemed to shift and remain constant at the same time. A whisper of pale blue wind flicked her hair into her face.
The wind was blue, Leeloo realized vaguely. Blue, the colour blue. That didn't seem to be quite right either.
There was a quiet crack in the undergrowth behind her and she turned around quickly.

Eve appeared to awake in the middle of a non-existant palace of nothingness. It almost appeared like her old homes in the Elf kingdoms. A piercing sense of fear ripped through her. She turned around, not seeing anyone. It was... blue? Why was it blue? Hadn't she just been in a forest?
"Blackie?" she called out weakly, not understanding what was going on around her and wishing that she did.

Blackie heard what he thought was a distant shout, but was unable to recognise the voice. He still smelled burning, and the light around him was changing through his closed eyelids...
He opened his eyes and found himself in a corridor. It was bright with flames dancing up all the walls, and lickign at the ceiling. In contrast to his last memmory, his eyes were pretty clear, though still obstructed by the smoke. He panicked and started to run down the corridor. He had to get out!
At first, he almost fell. He took a moment to realise he had too legs again... but, still had fur.. and his feet were much more like paws than anything...
What am I?
But the flames flared up. He would have to worry about it later.

Leeloo had whirled around at the snap of a twig, but the forest vanished even as she blinked. It was odd how easily she forgot about the pleasant wood and its godless sky.
The moment of transition passed in a vague, disjointed blur. Where there had been an earthy, woody scent on the fresh breeze, there was now the pungent stink of burning rot. The wood had become a long, lonely hallway; tongues of fire blazed fiercely and stretched the shadows.
There seemed to be at least one dark shape nearby. Drifts of smoke concealed it teasingly; she could see that it was bipedal, but its silhouette's movements were catlike... and she could have sworn she saw a long tail lashing from side to side.
Whatever the deuce it was, it was moving toward her - and quickly.

Eve started running, she had no idea where. All of a sudden, odd things started appearing. They were almost like fire, but... still not quite. Blackie was no where in sight, and she was getting more terrified by the moment. Finally, having tripped on a rock and fallen flat on her face, she stopped moving, hiding her head in her hands and sobbing her eyes out. Her friend's name died on her lips, she no longer had the will to call out anything, only to disappear.

Blackie turned around, sensing that he was being watched. There was a figure a little ways down the burning corridor. It was distorted by the smoke, and the heat waves in the air.
"Come on!" he shouted, but his voice sounded much more distant than he expected. "We have to get out of here!"

Leeloo jumped. The voice resounded as loudly as though he was right beside her, speaking in her ear. She moved carefully forward, cringing from the heat on either side of her. It was unbearably hot.
She could see the other person clearer now, and it was very obviously not entirely... human. Most noticeably, he was covered entirely in sleek black fur, and that was generally a sign of something not quite right in the gene pool. She wondered distantly if he was inbred.
As they neared each other, she caught glimpses of his dainty black paws, slanted eyes, and -- yes! She'd been correct; a long, swishing tail lashed at his legs. Still, he walked upright, and he had spoken in English.
What struck her as odd was that his appearance didn't strike her as odd.
"How do we stop this?" she sputtered, choking on smoke.
