"yes, it is. Can we stop for a breather?" asked Heather as she pulled out her solar flashlight from her backpack. She motioned the others to do the same. She hoped they wouldn't get lost because then the flashlight would not last long.
Surprisingly, the flashlight did not penetrate the darkness much. What it did do was illustrate swirling particles. "I don't think it is just darkness, I believe part of this is gas. I've noticed it is harder to breathe in here than where there was more light. Perhaps we should go back and go down the other route."

Okami nodded in the light cast by the light. <The smell is too closed in here.> a soft growl echoed the unease in the wolf's mind-voice.

"Yes, lets hurry and push on..." Braedon said, and carried on, further into the tunnel.

When they reached the fork in the path, Heather was grateful at the change int eh quality of air. She wondered what the cause of it was. It had reminded of how earlier in her ancester's history, miners used canaries to test the shaft, whether there was enough air to go in there.

Okami sniffed at each fork. <Neither have humans this time. Which path shoudl we choose?> The wolf asked, looking back at Heather and Braedon. Dog whined, looking down the left hand path.

"If we are going to get an idea of what exactly they are mining, we should head down the left path. Its hard to tell, but I think it might be noon, and the workers are eating lunch. THat would explain the quiet and lack of humans," commented Heather.
ooc: would they have watches/time pieces?

OOC: I don't know... Okami might be able to tell just because she's a wolf or something.

OOC: Braedon would have know from the position of the sun before they entered the tunnel.
BIC: "It is about noon, so I guess that it's a fair assumption they are eating. Otherwise they might have mined very deeply, though I would expect to see traffic coming through here if that was the case." Braedon said.

Heather looked down at the entrance and observed, "This may be the main path, but it is not as used as it would be for so many miners. Perhaps this is a fairly new operation, or the other three entrances we saw earlier are used as well, albeit not as much."

Okami nodded. <Or maybe it is because of that pocket of bad air we had to pass through.>

"All these tunnels look rushed. I wouldn't be suprised if there had been cave-ins or gas leaks." Braedon said in little above a whisper.

"And therefore, that is why that path was just left as is. THey found a better path and probably did not have time to deal w/ that oher path.," said heather.
